Sheffield Poetry Festival
31 May – 9 June 2013
Friday 31st May sees the launch of the second Sheffield Poetry Festival, a ten-day programme of thirty events celebrating the local, national and international. A range of literary and educational organisations, along with local poetry groups and individual poets, have got together to create a festival that is inclusive, ambitious, and includes writing and writers of the highest quality. Together we’ve created an eclectic programme, with something for every poetic taste, bringing some major names into the city (including Gillian Clarke, Sinead Morrissey, Bernard O’Donoghue and Michael Symmons Roberts) whilst promoting local poets alongside them. There are performance events and readings; small writers’ groups and national voices. Several poetry publishers are promoting their poets, we also have a children’s event hosted by Sheffield Libraries, film-poems, and a poetry walk.
The idea of community is so important in the world of poetry. We hope that this festival shows off the many strengths of Sheffield as a poetry city. Enjoy.
